Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 1331 E. Wyoming Ave., recently hosted a session on therapeutic laughter with the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor in conjunction with the hospital’s sponsorship of AATH’s 28th annual conference at the Hilton hotel at Penn’s Landing.

CTCA’s Mind-Body Medicine Department offers therapeutic humor, among other supportive options, for cancer patients and their caregivers to reap the benefits of a good laugh. Over the years, researchers have conducted studies that reveal a positive therapeutic impact of laughter on health in general, including balancing blood pressure, reducing stress and tension, and boosting the immune and circulatory systems.

To shed light on laughter therapy, registered nurse Karyn Buxman, a former president of AATH, teamed up with Katherine Puckett, CTCA’s national director of Mind-Body Medicine, for a presentation to the hospital’s leadership team.
